James Dunbar – first light
5-27 August
2006
”There are moments when
an unknown artist comes into the view of the critic. The thought
is that we have known all art and discovery is no longer possible… the disclosure is that there is a painter in a corner of Great
Britain who has brought forth images that explode in the air.
An epiphany!”
Charlotte Sherman, Museum Curator/Director, Heritage
Gallery, California, USA
First
Light was an exhibition of the “Treescapes
Series” of paintings by James Dunbar and a small selection
of other works. These paintings “which speak
with their own voice, and invites the viewer to walk that path
in the forest throught the blazing light, in the aura of the early
mist, as the sun shines and as it descends” (Charlotte
Sherman, USA) was unforgettable.
2010: James Dunbar is continuing his work on the "inscape" series based on landscapes of the Sandringham and Le Strange Estates in Norfolk. He is also working on a large piece of work made up of 8 sections, two of which are already completed. Some of the small studies for the "inscape" series are currently for sale at the gallery, and two of the sections are on display.
